Personal Description:
I am a male teacher who has always loved languages and never experienced any problems to learn them. To be able to go into a foreign country and speak their language, being understood and kind of feeling at home is a wonderful experience. It makes you feel good and competent and lets you partake in another country's cultural and everyday life.
Teaching Experience:
I've been teaching for about 30 years. I once calculated that I must have given over 30000 language lessons. As I specialized in teaching expat professionals I have been able to meet people from all over the world. So it's mainly international companies where I would work. As I teach German, English, French and Italian and also speak Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, I can talk to many students in their mother tongue. I would also teach beginners using their mother tongue (if possible) to initiate grammar explanations of the target language.
Teaching Approach:
I always say I pick the student up where they are in a language. I especially like beginners as they are completely in my hands and I am responsible for their progress. Whenever possible I'm using all four language skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) also to gauge if one or two of the skills are the preferred ones of the student. There is not much point in wanting a student to write essays if they hate writing. Flexibility in the teaching approach is key to my way of spreading the knowledge I have. I also think a bit of fun helps the lessons to be less serious and a bit of laughter never prevented one from having success in learning a language. In view of the latest developments regarding Corona I would like to mention - in addition to skype - that the platform "Cisco Webex" offers an extremely high quality of online conversation. It is absolutely free but it will take about two days to be installed due to very high demand for such services these days. I would be delighted to also teach you via that way.
