Personal Description:

I am a native speaker of both French and Arabic and grew up between the UK and France. French: my entire education up until the Baccalaureate was in French - I graduated with an average of 18/20. I have a BA from the Sorbonne and have worked as a translator (including literary translation) and interpreter from and into French. I'm also a journalist and have specialised in a number of fields, including media and politics, economics, the environment, and film and culture.
Arabic: I have a Syrian and Lebanese background, and spoke Arabic (Levantine) at home. I was taught to read and write at school and revisited my grammar via a SOAS language proficiency course. I work in Arabic and translate and interpret from Arabic.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience spans one-to-one, small groups and class rooms. I have taught French, English and Arabic to professionals looking to change careers and work in foreign countries. I was asked to offer cultural awareness and careers consultancy as part of those sessions. I have worked through language institutes in France and in England. I have taught classrooms of visiting Chinese students both English and French.

Teaching Approach:

I work directly with the student/learner to understand their specific goals, whether it's to be professionally proficient in a work place, comfortable chatting to locals on holidays, immerse themselves in a language and culture for relocation purposes, pass exams or just have fun and learn something new. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults so have the flexibility to adapt the teaching methods to various levels. I usually mix and match, using a chosen text book as a solid grammatical base and more playful/flexible tools for oral practice and sentence construction - anything from TV shows, to film reviews and thematic discussions.
