Personal Description:

I am married to a Japanese and my mum is from Holland, so I understand well about the challenges of learning a 2nd language (Dad is NZ-born, I also). I follow sport as my hobby and I like old movies.

Tutoring Experience:

2000-2002: ESOL in Japan for the Japanese Government on the J.E.T. program. In the Nagoya area (Ichinomiya City)

2002-2018: Teacher of the Certificate in General English Proficiency at ICL Business School (Lorne St, Auckland). Afternoons only at ICL since 2014- I have been focusing on my tutoring.

I majored in Primary School education originally, and did some relief teaching on the North Shore of Auckland before going to Japan in 2000.

Tutoring Approach:

Three simple steps: I need to know… 1. Exactly what the student needs me for.
2. A timeframe for how long they need lessons.
3. What their final goal might be by the time we finish the lesson program.

These steps are absolutely vital. I understand how important it is for the student to make good progress with their time and money. The student should feel relaxed, but I always take my role seriously.

My personal approach is to be responsive and friendly at all times!
