Personal Description:
Kia ora!
My name is Lance and I’m an experienced tutor offering support in Te Reo Māori and design (mainly Digital Art). I’m qualified in Te Reo Māori up to Level 7 and enjoy helping learners gain confidence. In design I have achieved a level 6 in 3D animation and Film so I'm mainly specialised in Digital Art and have worked as a 3D animator, Illustrator, and pretty much a general Digital Artist.
I work at Te Kura, NZ Correspondence School and have a lot of knowledge in NCEA whether it be with Te Reo or Digital Technologies. I've also have many years teaching adults too when I was working at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.
My lessons are friendly, adaptable, and goal-focused. I offer one-on-one or group sessions, and I’m happy to adjust to suit your learning style.
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 9 years of teaching and learning support experience. I spent 3 years teaching multimedia at Te Wānanga o Raukawa, focusing on creative and technical skill development. Before that, I taught at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa for 3 years across various subjects. I’m currently working in Learning Delivery at Te Kura (NZ Correspondence School), where I support students in literacy, numeracy, Te Reo Māori, and art.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style has continued to evolve over the years, shaped by experience and the diverse needs of my learners. Here's how I typically work:
-Initial Assessment: I start by assessing the student’s current level and how much time and energy they can commit each week.
-Goal Setting: Together, we set clear, realistic goals based on that assessment.
-Backward Planning: We build a pathway from the goal back to where they are now, breaking it into milestones.
-Weekly Structure: Each week includes specific tasks to move us toward those milestones.
-Reinforcement: I provide follow-up work to reinforce the key concepts covered in each session.
-Weekly Check-ins: At the start of each class, we reflect on how the past week went and tweak our plan if needed.
This approach ensures each learner has a clear, manageable path forward — paced to suit them and grounded in consistent progress.
