Information About Jeanette - Tauranga tutor

Personal Description:

I am a New Zealand citizen with a nursing background and an interest in language teaching and learning which has led me along a dual career pathway over the years. My strengths would include an ability to relate to people of different cultures and ages, a desire to develop in English teaching skills and a passion for languages in general. I speak Spanish and I have studied French, Maori and Chinese.

Tutoring Experience:

I did the CELTA course in 2001 and worked for 20 months in an Auckland language school teaching general English. After that I went back to nursing and again returned to English teaching in 2016. I teach in my house (I'm flatting temporarily so this part is negotiable) or at the client's house (with petrol charges depending on the distance) mostly one-to-one and I also work/ have worked in four different language schools in the Bay of Plenty area. I teach children, teenagers and adults, including preparation for the IELTS test.

Tutoring Approach:

The first lesson is important in order to understand the student and what their goals are. Teaching is based on a friendly relationship and includes language activities, games, PowerPoints, videos and use of the internet. I always like to use my knowledge of other people's languages in order to make bridges of understanding.
