Personal Description:
I am semi-retired actuary. Worked in the insurance and finance industry for over 30 years.
Bachelor of Science with Honours (1st) at Victoria University of Wellington
I have two children, both are currently at secondary school.
Tutoring Experience:
Completed Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching at AUT.
Tutored secondary school mathematics during my university study.
Tutoring Approach:
The tutoring should be complementary to what is being taught in class.
My approach to mathematical thinking is to initially look at the problem from above, to see if the student can spot the pattern - rather than explain a set of rules. I also try to explain links to other parts of the syllabus (eg linking algebra to graphs).
