Personal Description:
Hi, I am Evangeline . I come from Beijing, have lived in Hong Kong, Barcelona and London, and have been in New Zealand for 7 years.
I believe interest is the key to learning most subjects, especially languages. I am confident in helping students find their interest in learning Chinese, as I have great enthusiasm and good knowledge about Chinese culture myself. I love to bring some fun into lessons by linking to real-life scenarios, as well as sharing relevant historical facts, stories and anecdotes. This has proved very helpful in my previous experience tutoring both in London and in Auckland, where I received great feedback from students.
Having lived many years in Hong Kong, I also speak some Cantonese. If you are interested in finding out about the variety of Chinese language, I am more than happy to help you. I can also teach Chinese calligraphy if you find it amazing as I do.
I have extensive experience with English tests for non-native speakers, such as IELTS and TOEFL. I can help you prepare for these tests, especially if you are looking to practise for the speaking test.
Rate is $50/hr if in Auckland City/Hobsonville. I am open to group tuition - simply add $30 per additional student to the quoted rate. Rate for online tuition is $40/hr.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught numerous students of all levels in London in 2013-2014, and in Auckland in 2015-present.
Tutoring Approach:
I would usually discuss with students regarding their current levels and objectives in our first meeting, so as to best cater the lessons to their needs. Lessons are text-book-centred with extensive relevant knowledge. Based on the lessons, I would suggest additional learning resources available online. I have also taken students to field trips to expand vocabulary and practise conversations in real-life scenarios.
