Personal Description:

Hello Students & Parents! I am a graduate of English Language & Literature (Honors) from Brock University and am exceedingly passionate about studies of Literature, Writing, and all things encompassed in the field of Language Arts. Within my Bachelor's Degree, I completed an array of courses covering Feminist & Gender Studies, Literary Criticism & Theory, in addition to multiple rhetoric classes that study codes of writing in different genres (between academic, professional, and creative fields). Achieving success in this program involved constant drafting, reworking, and proofreading every written assignment. Outside of my work as an educator, I am an avid painter as I find the work relaxing; I often practice yoga & meditation too.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been an educator for nearly 6 years and counting! I currently work as a Children's Visual Arts Teacher for a small-scale Art Gallery, where I develop and teach my own lessons - all of which are taught step-by-step and tailored to the skill-set of my students. I pride myself in having worked with students of all ages, starting with children as young as 3 years old up to those who are preparing or are enrolled at a University or College. Everyday in the classroom I am filing and organizing students' assignments and homework, making sure worksheets are meticulously dated and ordered. I must add that I have experience working closely with new students needing primary instruction to a new classroom practices and with students needing IEPs and/or on the Autism spectrum.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in establishing routines for students, as it allows them to practice a good work ethic and let them improve on work habits each time they start a session of learning. I like to set a regimented schedule wherein students are able to complete assigned projects to the best of their ability all while being welcome to use their imagination and show creativity in their work. After completing assigned work, I make sure to follow up on the progress of my students as I find it incredibly useful to track their progresses, achievements, struggles, and methods of learning that function or fail to function for them. I know that no matter what age, whether it be a young child needing to practice fine motor skills or a mature student who is hoping to improve their argumentative writing, no student learns the same; some succeed with visual cues, some prefer oral instruction, and others need to be approached by a variety of methods as it offers them a fuller picture of how to succeed. I find this variety one of the many joys of teaching.
