Personal Description:

I am currently working at an Engineering Consulting firm in the field of Building Science (Civil Engineering). After obtaining an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) in 2015, I made my way to the University of Toronto to study Civil Engineering. I graduated in June 2020 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering and in June 2021 with a Masters in Civil Engineering, focusing my studies in the field of Building Science. At work, I have been involved with building restoration projects such as roofing, garages, building envelope systems and building condition assessments. I have also taken on a role as the National Communications Director for a knowledge sharing initiative within the company.

Outside of work, I am a member of the Emerging Green Professionals Committee with the CaGBC where my team and I organize various events for young professionals in the "Green Building" industry. Over the past year, I helped coordinate the committee's Design Charette where the challenge was focused on creating a Climate Action Plan for a Post Secondary Campus to sustain its student population growth and reduce its impact to the environment to combat climate change within the next 50 years. This year, I am helping coordinate the mentorship program and am organizing a speaker series event with my team.

As being a student leader during my time at school was a prominent part of my University experience, I enjoy volunteering my time at the University of Toronto through mentoring current students and new graduates. I also participate in alumni events organized by the Civil and Mineral Engineering Department such as alumni panels and career fairs. During my spare time, I enjoy event planning (virtually for now!), sketching, creating art work, journaling, reading, and cake decorating. I also love spending time outdoors when I can.

Tutoring Experience:

I have about 2 years of tutoring experience, tutoring students from grade 1 to grade 12 (high school). 1 year of my tutoring experience was through a paid high school program where I was recommended by my teachers to tutor younger students and peers in subjects of Math, Science, English and Geography. My second year of tutoring experience was at a tutoring company, where I tutored Math and Science subjects to up to ten students a week at a variety of grade levels to further develop their knowledge in the subject areas. With this experience, I was required to also provide students with an organized study schedule to help them stay focused on their academic goals.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring, I like to first understand what is the most productive way each student can learn. I like to establish a relationship with tutees to better understand their needs and gaps in their knowledge and cater the tutoring experience to those. Understanding if a student is an auditory, visual or kinesthetic learner can have a large and positive impact on the outcomes of the tutoring experience. In understanding a tutee's style of learning, I can cater lesson plans to include examples that make the most sense to students. I like to be adaptable while tutoring as well, so that if tutees do not understand the concept in one way, I have a back-up plan to explain it a different way that suits their learning style better.

I also believe strongly in the aspect of mentorship, offering advice and share experiences that could help guide their potential career opportunities. I like to help tutees understand why what they are learning is important to them now and in their future experiences as well.
