Personal Description:

I am a journeyman carpenter by trade with ten plus years of experience. I also have a Vocational Teaching Certificate for carpentry. I have always had a pretty easy time with math equations and figuring out solutions since i was young and enjoy them greatly. As a carpenter, math and problem solving are key. I have been able to use my math skills to further my work in the trade. I have also been given the opportunity to tutor a few students at the high school i currently work at. I am a very easy going person who gets along with everyone quite easily. I enjoy listening to all types of music and love to hear what other students like to do with their spare time. I enjoy a wide variety of sports and love to chat about anything current that's going on in the world.

Tutoring Experience:

I have one year of student teaching experience at Kildonan East Collegiate, as well as two years experience as an Educational Assistant.

Tutoring Approach:

Small successes are key to start a students learning. If they have some success at the start, they won't be so turned off to learn the subject content. The goal is to get the student started with easier equations slowly working up to harder and harder content. I have been around math for a majority of my life and am able to come up with multiple different ways of explaining what we're learning. The better they're able to understand what the question is asking for, the greater the chance of them succeeding. Learning also has to be enjoyable, if you hate what you're learning, chances are that you won't retain any of the information. Trying to make the content relatable is also something that helps.
