Information About Shelley - Markham tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Shelley:
Hi, my name is Shelley and aside from being a teacher, I enjoy reading, hiking, traveling and eating! My family and friends are very important to me and I value time spent with them so I try to instill that in my students. I am passionate about teaching and learning with children, especially children with special needs.
I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT qualified) and I have been teaching for 10 years in the elementary panel for the Toronto District School Board. I have also taught in Hong Kong for 2 years so I am aware of the learning needs of students who are learning English as a second or third language (ESL). I have and am currently tutoring already and have students who range from Pre-Kindergarten to High School, although my focus is from Kindergarten to Grade 6. I have my Special Education qualifications as well as my Reading Specialist and currently, I tutor students who have learning disabilities and Dyslexia using a very specific and known program. I have been in leadership positions in my career and have co-written curriculum.
The first time I meet your child, I complete an assessment with them to determine their independent level in Reading, Writing and Spelling. Based on the assessment, I create an individualized program for your child specific to their learning needs. This allows for greater improvement and more one-on-one attention to target needed areas of learning. I believe in hands-on learning that is interesting and fun for the student. If you are looking for a tutor to just help with homework in all subject areas (English, Math, Science, Social Studies), I am able to do that as well as I am familiar with the Ontario Curriculum.
