Personal Description:

I am a recent graduate from the University of Victoria. I attained my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology. I am planning to pursue a career in education, and I have gained plenty of experience in the field while working on and off for multiple years as a private tutor.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 6 years of tutoring experience. I have helped students in a variety of courses, including math, biology, chemistry, and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

One thing I have come to realize as a tutor, is often the main problem a student has with a subject is that they don't know how to learn it. So often it is about more than simply walking the student through the steps, but rather teaching them how to think generally about a subject, as this is the best way to have lasting effects well beyond the individual course they struggle with. I also believe patience to be one of the most important qualities in a tutor. The frustration of not understanding a subject can be extremely stifling to the learning process; therefore, a slower pace at the beginning of the process is important. In other words, a 'eureka' moment cannot be rushed.
