Personal Description:
Hey! I am a 3rd-year medical student who enjoys learning about how we and the world around us work, but I love to teach even more. I also love medical education and have been involved with public speaking since my high school days in student council, to the current day: delivering medical education seminars to the public through my school. I am also a huge fan of TED talks, so much that during university I got involved with our TEDx group and coached speakers for over 5 years.
In my free time, I love to play sand volleyball with friends, both the acoustic and electric guitar, and video games (currently playing through Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and casually play Apex Legends and COD with Discord buddies).
Tutoring Experience:
I have a total of 8 years of private tutoring experience, 5 years of experience as a Kumon tutor, and 5 years of speaker coaching experience through TEDx, Toastmasters, and Public Speaking clubs I created in university as well as medical school.
My earliest experience is working as a Kumon tutor in the tenth grade, where having completed the math program myself, I empathize and understand how the difficulty of the coursework. It was a valuable time and enriching experience, when I learned how to teach the more complicated math topics (such as integrals, differentials, and advanced calculus) in an easy-to-understand way. I then transferred the skills from this high school job when I became a tutor at the University of Toronto, where I would help tutor chemistry, math, biology, and general topics in science to other students throughout the school and on my own time as a private tutor. Simultaneously, I carried my passion of public speaking into my school through the University of Toronto Public Speaking club as well as TEDxUofT. Where I have a combined 5+ years of experience in teaching others how to speak more effectively. In addition, I tutor 1st and 2nd-year medical students through my medical school and also just help out friends in the graduating classes below me over a casual coffee.
Tutoring Approach:
I will never fit a circle peg into a square hole, every student is unique and to respect that, I will tutor you in a unique way best suited to your needs and style of learning.
I enjoy using stories, anecdotes, and analogies to make learning easier. Even the most complex and frustrating science topics can be boiled down into simple pathways and steps to follow. In addition, making silly mnemonics is always useful, and even as a medical student, I sometimes use very childish mnemonics to remember the most complicated and serious pathology presentations. This is what sticks, and our brains like simplicity.
The world is already so full of complications and chaos, let's keep things simple when we learn :)
