Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Sarah. I am a native English speaking Canadian from Waterloo, Ontario. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Honours Sociology and am currently pursuing my TESOL certificate while living in Montreal. I relocated to Montreal after backpacking and traveling abroad for a few years. I have been learning French since moving here in July and have reached an Upper Intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel thus far. I have a passion for teaching and helping students understand the lesson materials in a way that makes sense to them. I use a variety of strategies when creating lesson plans that are tailored to the student and their personal goals. After having tutored privately, I am looking to expand my presence in the community and join First Tutors!

Tutoring Experience:

TESOL certificate pending - June 2018
Private Tutoring lessons in Canada and abroad.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I crea**Contact Detail Removed**sson plans tailored to the client's personal language goals, aiming to break through barriers and mental blocks that result in the dreaded plateaus. Identifying the client's personal struggles with the language are crucial in lesson planning and will determine which methods and resources are employed. Oral comprehension of the language is one of the most difficult aspects of learning a new language past the age of 6; thus, it is important to train our ears to recognize new speech patterns. Dialogues appropriate to the client's level are a great tool to be used, paralleled with repetition and the identification of context, in order to stop translating phrases from their native language and to begin thinking in English! :)
