Personal Description:

My name is Samantha , I am currently going into my fourth year at McMaster University. My hobbies include reading, cooking new foods and playing the piano to name a few. I am very open and extroverted, and enjoy meeting new people and exploring new places close or far from home.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been tutoring english for a few years, starting four years ago with a few studens from grades 1, 4, 7 and 9. Each student had different skills they wanted to improve, such as reading analysis, punctuation, grammar and word choice. I enjoy teaching english and sharing my love for reading, I often had notes on my report card asking me to stop reading in class, as I found it hard to put a good book down! I also love to teach and tutor music, I am certified to teach piano, vocal lessons and theory levels basic and intermediate under the Royal Conservatory of Music. My younger students enjoyed learning new songs they could play for their parents and family, as well as learning the names of the notes, timing and some technique. My older students focused on prepping for vocal, piano and theory exams, as they can qualify for highschool credits. Their marks are often used to boost or compliment GPAs in anticipation for university or college.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is first and foremost to listen to the student, asking them what they enjoy about the subject, what they find difficult and make the subject fun and exciting. Remebering that I used to struggle with some subjects and topics helps me to relate to my students and makes me a better tutor. My first tutoring session would be an introductory, finding what needs work, and then assigning goals for the period of time we share together. I like to call them "our goals" because when my student suceeds we did it together, and when my student doesn't,we need to reassess and find out where we need to improve. These goals can be going up in reading levels, working on an assignment or learning a new song, they can be big, like going up a letter grade, or small, like passing a test. **Tutoring until further notice will be online, but can be inperson once the worlds situation improves **
