Personal Description:

I am a very calm spirit with a Buddhist background in mindfulness meditation. I love trees but I also love teaching, especially mathematics and ecology. I am a permaculture enthusiast and also vegan. My dream is to own a hobby farm supported by various teaching opportunities. I love making connections, especially in relationship to phenomenology and environment. I love reading deep ecology (branch of philosophy) texts from authors such as Fritjof Capra and spiritually-minded texts in the perennial tradition. I also love and grew up on Dragonball Z and Lord of the Rings and played in some Korean tournaments for StarCraft when I was a much younger lad. ;)

I also have an active imagination and find humour in practically all of life's adventures :)

Tutoring Experience:

I am also a certified teacher and part of OCT (# 608013). My teachables include math and physics for Intermediate and Senior levels (grades 7-12). My background is in mathematical physics from UW and I have obtained a Masters in educational philosophy with a focus in complexity and ecological theory (interpretive framework), Eastern mindfulness (subject), and Platonic metaphysics (context).

Therefore, I bring both practice and high calibre pedagogical theory to the table. For example, I have developed Grimsby Freeskool (**Web Address Removed**) that has run for a number of years now where like-minded individuals come together to share knowledge freely; but I also have many years experience teaching gifted students and struggling students alike from elementary to secondary levels in the Lincoln area.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer group tutoring (discount available) but prefer 1-1 scenarios. I have a keen mind and ability to gauge the level of comprehension in my tutees which allow me to place myself in their shoes. In my opinion, this is lacking in many teachers today despite being the most important qualification for teaching and tutoring well. The second qualification is personality. It is important to have a real passion and zest teaching (and life!)

My approach is to balance repetition work with understanding the context of mathematical patterns. Pure repetition may score a high grade in the short term but mathematical concepts will ultimately fail to stabilise later in their lives. My focus, therefore, is to work on the foundations of the mathematical course and to teach students to see patterns and not formulaic responses.

Foundational work may seem slow but I have I have found over time that it greatly speeds up the tutoring process later on and many hours are saved overall. Of course, I can also teach strictly repetition and formulaic work if time is a serious factor. My highest goal is to have the student capable of carrying themselves in future educational aspirations as I teach techniques on how to learn well throughout my sessions when I find the opportunity to do so.

Although I can work well with computers, I prefer the communication that a pencil has with a paper over strained eyes over a screen. ;) Social and interpersonal skills form a large part of my tutoring strategy.
