Personal Description:
I'm an Ontario Certified Teacher (Junior/Intermediate with Math as my teachable) who enjoys working one-on-one with students. I have always enjoyed teaching math.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been an elementary teacher in Toronto for nineteen years. For fifteen of those years I taught grade 7 and 8 math. I particularly enjoyed working with students individually or in small groups.
I have tutored high school math in the past, but it has been a few years. I have recently reviewed the Ontario curriculum for grades 9, 10, and 11, and feel more than confident in my abilities to help students in those courses. I would also be willing to work with grade 12 students at a reduced rate while I become reacquainted with the material.
Tutoring Approach:
When students struggle with math, confidence is the most common issue. I've always prided myself on my ability to focus on what a students is doing well (which is often more than they think!) to help rebuild confidence and make it easier to make necessary adjustments. Every student is different and I think it is crucial to try different approaches while maintaining an encouraging atmosphere. I also really enjoy math as a subject and try to share that enthusiasm with my students.
