Personal Description:

Born in Waterloo, Ontario, I grew up in the heart of the city, yearning for an escape to the outdoors. After two years of university, I decided to take time off to tree plant and work on my art while figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I spent those years writing, drawing, rock climbing, and travelling around the world for work as a Guide. In those four years, I visited 15 countries. After growing tired of not having a home for more than a few weeks at a time, I returned to school at TRU for Adventure Studies. After graduating, I continued my education with pursuits in English and Creative Writing. I am currently in the final year of my degree and am in the process of applying for an MFA in Creative Writing.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently work as a Peer Tutor at the Writing Centre at Thompson River University, working with students who require additional help writing their academic and creative writing papers. I am a Fourth-Year TRU student applying for my Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

I have two years of experience working for Big Brother Big Sisters with Elementary school children behind in their reading and writing. I often employ imagery work to help urge them along to where they need to be.

I do private tutoring with high school students looking for extra help on essay writing and structure, or want to get ahead of the curve and prepare for Post Secondary education.

Outside of the classroom, I have ten years of experience working with children and youth of all ages while coaching football, instructing canoe lessons, and teaching indoor and outdoor rock climbing.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in guiding students to become autonomous learners and critical thinkers. I like to ask questions and provoke thought in my students to allow them to come to conclusions on their own. I use a variety of tutorial approaches so that students have a breadth of experience in learning the topic at hand so that all learning styles are met.
