Personal Description:

My name is Naomi . I am a current secondary school teacher for the Grand Erie District School Board in Brant County. I am also a mom to an active 10-year-old daughter. In my free time I enjoy volunteering my time with local sports organizations, reading, exercising, and taking karate class. My dream is to one day start a non-profit organization of my own to provide low income students with clothing, food, tutoring, transportation, and funding for extra-curricular activities.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a secondary school teacher with Grand Erie District School Board. I am a Student Success Teacher, which means I work in the specialized services department with students who have learning challenges of all kinds. I help students with their work in all subjects by providing one-on-one support and additional resources. I also run after school homework help for students as well as activities to help grade 8 students make the transition from elementary school to high school. In the past I have taught English, business, locally developed math and special education classes. Prior to teaching I was a recreational instructor and camp counselor and volunteered in Windsor, Ontario in adult ESL classrooms.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every student is an individual with unique learning needs. I also believe that every child can succeed. I take a personalized approach to tutoring by getting to know the student and their learning needs first by creating a Student Success Profile with the student and the parent (optional). I then cater my tutoring to how that child learns best, such as creating a differentiated lesson suited to the student's interests. If permitted and the student is comfortable, I will also speak to the classroom teacher to better understand the student's learning strengths and needs.
