Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Mikyla, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies (with a minor in Biblical Languages). I have a high degree of proficiency in the English language and enjoy helping people gain a better understanding of their studies, especially when it comes to English/Language Arts and Religious Studies.

Tutoring Experience:

Throughout university I was a general tutor, meaning that I would tutor people in whatever class they needed help in (usually to help the student understand assignments and to help them prioritize/organize their work.

While taking my classes in Biblical Greek (for my Biblical Languages minor), I was asked to become the tutor for the class, and tutored it for the entire two years I took Greek classes; normally the tutor was someone who had already taken the class, but because I had a good understanding of the material and kept ahead, an exception was made.

Throughout university I also unofficially helped people with essay writing/editing, particularly if English was their second language or if they had a learning disorder (such as dyslexia).

Tutoring Approach:

My general approach to tutoring is a student-lead approach, and is unique to each situation and person. Once we have gone over what the student feels they need help with, I help them make an action plan so we can know when progress has been made, and then we proceed with the first step of that plan. When the tutoring session is almost over, I like to review what we've done, especially if there was something the student struggled with in particular; we would go over the action plan so they are clear on what they need to do when I'm not there, and make sure they're ready to do some work on their own. I also usually provide my phone number and email so that if the student has a question they can ask me before our next tutoring session.
