Information About Meira

Montreal tutor

Personal Description:

I am a third year Biology and Mathematics student at McGill University with extensive tutoring experience and a genuine love for teaching. I went to an arts high school before switching to a full-fledged science degree and am very familiar with the feeling of confusion at the start of science courses, which is what inspired me to start tutoring in the first place. I love all things science and write quite a bit, so if you're looking for help in any of the subjects listed on my page, whether it be to rescue a failing grade, turn an average one into a perfect A, prepare for a standardized test or simply learn about something you're passionate about, you've come to the right place!

Tutoring Experience:

- 5 years of independent tutoring experience
- 3 years of university-based tutoring experience
- Over 50 tutees (references can be provided upon request)
- 2 years of working as a teaching assistant in university science courses including chemistry, organic chemistry, math and computer science

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in practice. I will normally ask my tutees what they'd like to focus on a few days prior to meeting, then come prepared with practice questions and full solutions when we meet. I ask my tutees to work through problems (I do not solve the problems for them!) and I work with them, clarifying any confusion throughout. One of the things I do often is pause my tutees in the middle of a problem and ask them WHY they chose to approach a particular step in the way they did. I want my tutees to understand what they are doing and not simply copy the methods they've seen online mechanically, so that when they are tested on the material, wording or problem setups that are different from what they've normally seen do not throw them off!
