Information About Megan

Vaughan tutor

Personal Description:

A Ph.D. chemist with fifteen years of experience teaching chemistry at all levels, from high school to University, is currently tutoring students in Chemistry 11 and 12.

Tutoring Experience:

I hold a Ph.D. in chemistry with extensive experience teaching all levels of chemistry from high school to university. I have always tried my best to teach complex content by providing detailed background information and information on related topics to allow the students to capture the idea from a more understandable and clear aspect. I have found that this technique aids students in understanding difficult areas of the content because it allows them to process and put together the smaller pieces of the big picture that they may have found difficult beforehand. In addition, I like to use day-to-day life examples that will allow the students to visualize the topic more simply. For example, to explain the shielding effect of the cloud of electrons surrounding the nucleus, I like to compare it to a cloudy day. The more clouds in the sky, the less sunlight reaches the ground, and vice versa.

Tutoring Approach:

y teaching methodology for all levels of chemistry: Introduction: Give a quick summary of the subject (for example, chemical reactions) and how it relates to daily life at the outset. To engage students' interest and generate relevance, present them with an actual event or common example of a chemical reaction. Conceptual structure: Provide a general review of chemical processes, highlighting the significance of knowing the many kinds of reactions and how to balance chemical equations. Direct instruction: Give simple instructions on the four main types of chemical reactions. Describe each type of reaction's general properties, equations, and examples, emphasizing any significant patterns or trends. Discussion: Encourage students to actively engage by asking questions, making predictions, and providing explanations for their conclusions. Practical application: Give students a series of chemical reactions and instruct them to classify the reactions according to their experimental results, document their observations, and watch for changes. Application: Provide students with the task of applying their knowledge of chemical reactions to projects involving problem-solving or real-life scenarios. Assessment: Use a formative evaluation at the end of the class to evaluate how well the students understood and applied the learning goals.
