Information About Meaghan

Toronto tutor

Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Meaghan and I recently graduated with my Master's in political science and public policy, and I currently work in a non-partisan role in provincial politics.

With school courses moved online, I want to work with students virtually to ensure that they can successfully finish their school year.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading about Canadian and Ontario politics, trying my hand at new recipes, and walks with my dog.

Tutoring Experience:

I have four years of experience teaching and tutoring students in both classroom and one-on-one settings at post-secondary institutions.

I have three years of experience working in university writing centres, where I worked one-on-one with students to give them feedback on their written work and instruction on the core aspects of academic writing including thesis statement and argument, overall structure, idea development, and grammar.

I also have one year of experience teaching course materials in a tutorial setting for an introductory political science course, where I also marked and provided feedback to students on their coursework and exams.

I have developed a strong knowledge of various writing styles and assignment types from across disciplines, and I have a thorough understanding of the proper application of the common citation guidelines (APA, MLA, Chicago).

I have worked with students at a variety of educational backgrounds and abilities, and with varying English reading and writing levels, including English language learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I work with students to understand their own strengths and weaknesses in the course, as well as see where they are meeting course and assignment expectations. I then build off the student's strengths to improve on core academic skills to prepare them for the next steps in their academic career.
