## Personal Description:

I just graduated from the Masters of Teaching program at the University of Toronto (studying to become a high school teacher).

I was a struggling student all throughout high school but thanks to a few unique insights, I went from a 60's student to top of my class in under two years - with scholarships to prove it! My passion for teaching comes from seeing students who are labeled as failures, flourish into students capable of achieving any academic endeavour.

There are no bad students, just teachers who don't know how to engage with a variety of learning styles.

I am not those teachers.

## Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored many students privately in various subjects. I have also tutored small groups of students who needed to pass exams.

I started my tutoring experience by tutoring underprivileged students on multiple instruments so that they could get their music credit.

I then tutored coding, computer science, AutoCad, Photoshop, and other coding based programs such as Alice.

I also tutored students in electrical engineering, robotics and computer logic.

During university I tutored students and peers in mathematics and science.

In my last year of university, as part of my research project, I also guided a student in my research field.

I tutored students as young as grade 3 and as old as university students, mainly focusing on the ages of 10 - 18.

-UPDATE:

I have found a lot of success with student athletes for some reason, Hockey players especially.

--NOTE:

I charge $80 per session, which is one hour plus anytime needed to finish the task (about 1h ~15min). I find that this payment structure is less hassle and ends up being equivalent to 45-60 per hour.

I also ask for payment before each session to prevent any awkward situations/ delays.

I accept any payment other than credit cards, and prefer cash for the first session

## Tutoring Approach:

Every student is different, if I have to choreograph a dance routine to teach you or your child mathematical functions, I'll do it.

Mostly, I aid students with homework and studying for exams in the traditional sense. However, I am very sensitive to students needs/learning styles, and have passed on dance routines to teach math equations.

With consent, I enjoy assigning projects to deepen understanding.

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you so much!

**From Lisa ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Matthew is a very professional tutor who is very effective at what he does. I found my son related to him right away and we have had very good results. Matthew made my son feel relaxed and helped him feel more confident and it shows in his improved grades.

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you so much!

**From Erin ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Matthew has been a great help to my kids in grade 9 and grade 11 for math. He has been able to connect with them and help them to work through and understand the concepts.

He is always on time for sessions.

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you Erin!

**From Suzanne Brown ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Thanks for all you are doing with Owen, Matthew. His math scores are way up, and he actually enjoys his time studying with you!

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you very much!

I'm glad he now sees math as a fun challenge!

**From Logan ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Matthew is not your ordinary tutor. His purpose is to guide me to succeed and be the best I can be. Whether that's obtaining a 65 or an 80, he will guide and help me to achieve my goals. Matthew has his own teaching style which is very fun and energetic. Although, Matthew does an amazing job at keeping me on track and focused. I have been through many tutors throughout my education, and Matthew is by far the best tutor I have ever had. Most of the time, I turn to Matthew when I am anxious or nervous for a test, and he is always there to help calm me and prepare me to succeed. It has been nothing but positive! :)

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you so much, it really means a lot to me.

I wish you all the best at university!

**From Taylor ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Introductory meeting went very well, we're excited to see how we can help Taylor feel more comfortable (less stress) about Math. Of course we'd like to see her grade go up, but we'll just consider that as a bonus versus our first goal.

Matthew was very professional yet relatable for Taylor, and we look forward to working with him in the coming weeks.

**Reply from Matthew:**Thanks Chris!

I look forward to helping Taylor.

I'm thinking of scaffolding her learning by building her confidence with math so she can then attempt the more difficult exercises.

**From Milena ( /5):**

*(Secondary Math)*Very personable and attentive. Very capable of reaching out to the tutoree and engaging them.

**Reply from Matthew:**Thank you so much Milena!

From Tara (5/5):(Secondary Math)Matthew has helped my daughter tremendously in a very short period of time. She has told me that he was a way of explaining the material that makes it easy to understand. He uses analogies to help the message sink in and she is encouraged by how much she gets out of every tutoring session. She is confident that she will be ending the school year strong!Thank you, Matthew, for giving our daughter confidence in her studies!
