Personal Description:
I grew up in Québec City and recently moved to Nova Scotia. I am currently enrolled in a B.Ed at MSVU to become a French teacher.
I understand the specific challenges that second-language learners face as I have also learned English, Spanish, Italian and some German.
Tutoring Experience:
I cumulate 3 years of experience working as a French instructor at Université Laval's School of Languages in the French as a Second Language program, working with adults.
I have also worked with children aged 6-17 years old for 5+ years working at as a canoe expedition guide/counsellor on a summer camp and leading circus arts workshops in elementary schools of the Québec City area.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that true language proficiency relies on a balance between cognitive mastery (oral/written comprehension, oral/written expression) and confidence.
I have often witnessed learners who, despite a fairly strong knowledge of the French language, struggled to express themselves or comprehend documents due to a lack of confidence. Directed exercises can help learners put specific topics in practice and for them to feel more confident in their skills, resulting in stronger overall performance.
