Personal Description:

I am scientist (background is quantum physics) with extensive tutoring experience.
I am currently taking a break from full time work, and want to get back to sharing the subjects I love: math, physics and classical music!

Tutoring Experience:

>5 years experience as a private tutor for physics (early high school through university level)
>1 year experience as a university teaching assistant for first year university physics
>3 years experience as a private tutor for math (primary through high school level)
>5 years experience as a private piano teacher
>3 years experience as a private music theory teacher

Tutoring Approach:

I use a very tactile approach, trying to relate abstract concepts to real physical things in our everyday life. At the primary level I prefer to use tools like an abacus, wooden blocks, Lego etc. to teach counting addition subtraction, multiplication and fractions. I encourage especially my younger students (though I have done this with a room of university students) to stand and move while they learn concepts, to let their bodies act out the concept a bit (studies have shown this improves understanding for mathematical concepts).

The three main types of lessons I typically use are regular concept building lessons (teaching and reinforcing the subject matter of the course as the student moves through it, often using a variety of learning techniques), assignment help (helping students understand and work through specific assignments), and exam preparation (guiding students through exam techniques, study strategies and answer any last minute concept question before the big day.

I'm teaching exclusively online at the moment (using skype for audio/visuals).
