Personal Description:

Hello! I'm Linh, and I offer 1-on-1 tutoring online. My home was Toronto for 12 years, but I currently live in Montreal. I'm a full-time writer with a degree in English literature and specialize in creative non-fiction writing and children's literature. I've always been passionate about social issues and how they relate to education, and I strive to build meaningful relationships in a world in which many feel a lack of connection.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored four students privately (grades 2 - 9) in English, French, and Math. I also volunteered assisting in a grade 7 classroom and a Vietnamese language class. The bulk of my experience comes from 3 years working at a French summer day camp (grades 1 - 7), 8 years leading an after-school program (grades 2 - 12), and 5 years designing and facilitating educational programming for young adults (17 - 25 years old).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe creating a connection with the student is important, as I've found students have more willingness to learn and ask questions if there is a foundation of trust. I like to start with goal-setting to gain a sense of student expectations and interests. I also like asking students which way they believe they integrate knowledge best, as I believe they should be in control of their education. If they aren't sure what kind of learner they are, I will try different approaches until we find one that fits. Where possible, I like to tie their subject material back to real world examples! I also review study techniques, learning styles, and outside resources with students to support them in their independent work.
