Personal Description:

I am a 28 year old international student from China. I am in my first year of studies at Algonquin College, and am interested in tutoring part-time. As a patient and mature person, it is easy for me to effectively teach children. I have lived and studied in China for more than 25 years, so my strong command of Chinese will allow me to provide professional tutoring. Additionally, I am fluent in English so my bilingual communication will be an asset.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked as an IELTS English tutor for more than one year, while I was studying in China. I was responsible for helping students with learning and reciting English words, correcting grammar and pronunciation mistakes and finding English novels for them to read. As an experienced English tutor for Chinese-speaking students, I am confident that I will be an effective Chinese tutor for English-speaking students as well.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important aspect of tutoring is mindful communication. I use this approach while working with the students in order to get familiar with their personality, learning style and study habits. Depending on their individual tendencies, I tutor them in different ways in order to maximize their learning potential. For example, if a child is introverted and doesn’t want to talk, I will try to provide a fun and engaging learning environment for them to perform well in. From my experience in learning English, I strongly feel that the most important part of learning a language is talking, and I will utilize this approach during my time as a tutor.
