This is how 2 referees rated Kiyoshi:
I have a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education & Coaching with a major in Kinesiology from Douglas College, and over 300 hours of hands-on experience teaching and coaching from children to adults! My background is in individual and combative sports, with an emphasis on biomechanics and sport psychology.
I have three seasons experience as a Nationally-certified wrestling coach, attached to the Hyacks wrestling team out of New Westminster Secondary School and to the Pacific Rim Wrestling Club. Through wrestling I have coached athletes brand-new to the sport, and veterans about to join collegiate wrestling teams.
I have an official year coaching athletes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through the Kaboom Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. As with wrestling, I have helped athletes of all levels of experience pre- and post-match, as well as being responsible for skill development and refinement.
I also have practical classroom experience teaching skills to the high school level and the collegiate level. This experience involves both theory and practical skill application.
I approach skill development from a very practical standpoint, first establishing strengths and weaknesses, and proceeding from there. Each individual is different in their needs and abilities, I seek to find and teach what will work best for them. In a group setting I will teach fundamental basics, and add on options as required for different learning styles or execution styles. No two people learn or apply skills the same way, so why would I force them to learn exactly how I want them to learn? I enjoy a fun energetic class experience, and seek to connect simple movements to complex movements, and theory to application. I welcome questions at any time.
