Personal Description:

I am a kind, encouraging, and enthusiastic educator. I graduated from the Concurrent Teaching program at Brock University in 2019, and this is my third year as an Occasional teacher in secondary schools with the Waterloo Region District school board. Mathematics and Visual Arts are my teachable subjects.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring for 6 years, and have experience helping students with a range of academic ability in grades 7 - 12 math.
Out of the courses I have tutored, grade 11 University Functions is the one I have helped with the most.

Most of classes I supply are math, which has given me the opportunity to teach lessons and assist students with questions. Since the classes I am in range from grades 9-12, I have a good understanding of curriculum requirements for each course, and which skills are beneficial to have moving forward to the next math course.

Tutoring Approach:

In my sessions, I strive to create a comfortable and positive learning space where students can ask questions and learn from their mistakes. I encourage my students to adopt a growth mindset - how they are able to learn new things, not to get discouraged from mistakes, and to have confidence in their ability.

I pride myself in being able to provide digestible explanations of topics, and breaking questions down into manageable steps. For certain students who benefit from written information, I help them put together reference/study sheets that they are able to refer to.

I also try to integrate technology where I feel it will be beneficial. This can include a website like Desmos, where students can visually see graphs and transformations of graphs. I have also used Kahoot to help students with the speed at which they can answer questions and to observe which topics might need more review.
