Tutoring Approach:
I think that the most successful way to learn content is to understand it, and not just memorize it. Therefore, I like to emphasize a hands on approach by using concept maps to link different topics together and work though practice problems. Having a more holistic approach to understanding content allows students to perform better on application based questions, which are common in Chemistry and Biology courses.
I also know that both Chemistry and Biology can be overwhelming in regards to the amount of content that students are required to learn. I have come up with useful mnemonics and recall strategies that help students remember important information in high stress situations such as exams. I also like to work through exam strategies with students to help them tackle exam questions in an effective way.
Additionally, I like to create a unique timeline for each student. These realistic timelines help students achieve their end goals and ensures that each session is beneficial.
