Personal Description:

My name is Jonathon , just call me JJ. I teach ESL, English as a Second Language. I used to teach in Japan but in Vancouver I teach many students from all over the world. I tutor students one on one and online, usually to help prepare them for language tests such as IELTS. I also help students with high school and university level English. Most specifically, English 11+12. Literature 12. Writing 12. And any other classes which require writing compositions.

For General ESL I like to use English TV series. I make my own worksheets from popular TV shows on Netflix such as How I Met Your Mother, Friends, the Office, the Walking Dead and so on. Or you can choose the TV show. They are great for vocab and listening, a form of self-study. You can study from home with the worksheets I make. Listen to the vocab, make your own sample sentences, and then in a virtual meeting we check together and practice more by speaking! Perfect for studying in a pandemic!

For test prep, such as IELTS, I give sample and practice tests and instructions on how to do the different sections of the test. I specialize in teaching essay writing. I give a lot of homework and check the results together and assign possible scores during our meetings.

I custom create each lesson to fit the student. From high school English to PHD students, I can help everyone.

Online lessons are available through Zoom/Facebook/Skype.
In-person meetings are also considered.
