Tutoring Experience:
Trained and recieved certification after teaching for two years as an Elementry Teacher at U.B.C. after a B.A. in History (Asian) and English. Taught Intermediate Grades in Kamloops and Surrey. 30% of the students in Kamloops were aboriginal children residing in the Kamloops Residential School and attending public school for the first time. Almost immediately after starting as Crown Counsel, initiated a tutoring program for RCMP officers in Burnaby, BC. in law and evidence. This was continued throughout my career branching out to include teaching and seminar sessions to lawyers on specific subjects. Provided extensive education (including written manuals) to government employees of investigative agencies and the Coroners Service in BC, YUkon and Saskatchewan, as well as private interest groups, individuals and Articling Students.
Tutoring Approach:
Effective teaching means understanding the student and adapting to their particular mode of learning. Effective teaching quells fears and primes the pump of self-confidence and satisfaction. It also, hopefully, encourages curiosity and a love of learning. The first rule is that there is no such thing as a silly or too simple a question. To be an effective student, it is expected that honest application of skill, an open mind and a willingness to apply ones-self is essential.
