Personal Description:
My name is Huaijin and I'm a University of Alberta student in my fourth and final year. My major is mathematics and I am minoring in the general sciences (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry) and I am expected to graduate with a Bachelors in Secondary Education in June 2021.
I have lots of tutoring experience and love helping my students develop their an appreciation and understanding for math concepts.
During my spare time, I love listening to music, doing puzzles, reading, learning other languages, making crafts, and gardening! I love to learn which is one the main reasons I want to become a teacher - it is a life long learning journey! I hope for my future students to become critical and curious thinkers and citizens of the world!
Tutoring Experience:
Private tutor to grade 1 and 5 children during the summer.
Volunteer tutor with Youth Science Innovate Program at the University of Alberta.
Study Buddy experience - helping junior high students with 1-1 math.
Crescent heights high school student teacher - helping the Math department build assessments (formative and summative), provide feedback to students, conducting in-person and online lessons on trigonometry, polynomials, radicals, quadratic functions and equations, etc. (based on the Alberta curriculum and the program of studies).
Tutoring Approach:
Student and teacher collaboration, 1-1 help, and providing lots of examples! My goal is to help build student math confidence and understanding - progress is progress - it does not matter small the increment of improvement may be. Helping students achieve goals that they set for themselves and helping them achieve "math success" - whatever that may mean to them.
