Personal Description:
Hello, My name is Heeba!
I am an Ontario Certified teacher and graduated from the Masters of Teaching program at OISE (University of Toronto). I was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. I dreamed of being a teacher since i was in grade 8 and during my bachelor's I was very interested in teaching ESL. As a linguistics major, I learned a lot about second language acquisition, and really enjoy thinking about innovative and meaningful methods of teaching English. I also enjoy teaching math and English languages for native speakers. I am dedicated to my craft, and take the time to create my lesson plans from scratch. I believe that every student is unique and therefore there is no one size fits all lesson. As i get to know a student, I am able to further customize my lessons to suit their needs. I believe it is my duty as a teacher to teach students in an engaging and meaningful way that will allow them to retain what they learned during my lessons.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe students need visuals to grab their interest and also have them follow along with you. I do not like to simply talk at students and feed them information. I love to use visual cues to keep students on track, and also ask students inquiry questions about the visuals to analyze their thinking and learning process. Therefore, I oftentimes come to my tutoring sessions with a PowerPoint, and a worksheet with many accompanying visuals. I also like to make things hands-on when possible. For example, instead of teaching the human skeleton with just a picture, I come with pieces of the bones and have the student past them on a paper while learning about the bones. I think every lesson needs an activity that will be fun for students. These activities are necessary to keep them motivated, and I like to incorporate various activities so that students stay attentive for the entire session.
