Personal Description:

I love the expression on a student's face when a concept clicks for the first time or they accomplish something that didn't come easily to them. I firmly believe that success in school is about more than just grades. As a math tutor, I try to help my students develop problem-solving skills that not only increase their understanding of the material but also equip them to apply what they've learned in a variety of contexts.

Tutoring Experience:

My Master of Science degree is in a rare field: Technology and Engineering Education. It completely revolutionized the way I think about teaching. For example, I now help kids think through homework problems using an organized thought process instead of merely guiding them toward the correct answer.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that students should take ownership of what they're studying, so I frequently ask them to explain concepts back to me to test their understanding. If there's a disconnect somewhere, I can generally find it by listening for when their explanation goes awry.
