Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Grusha and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. I am entering my final year of study and I am pursuing a degree in English Literature, Book and Media Studies, and Creative Expression and Society. My vast experience with writing and communication related work, my thorough academic background, and my past experience with tutoring makes me an ideal English tutor.

Under my "qualification" section, I listed a handful of English courses that I have taken in my undergraduate career thus far, since I believe that they have strengthened my reading and writing abilities.

Tutoring Experience:

When I was in high school, I tutored my fellow students through my position in the National English Honors Society. I helped them edit their essays, guided them through literary analysis of multiple poems and short stories, and answered their questions about their assignments.

More recently. I tutored elementary school children this past summer for around three months. I created reading comprehension activities for them, helped them practice their spelling, and assigned them short readings that would keep them engaged with the material. I also occasionally gave them the opportunity to write short stories and poems as a way for them to increase their comfort level with creative writing as well as academic writing. After the end of the summer, both students had improved their spelling drastically and also improved their reading comprehension skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is highly individualized to the student. My goal from the very beginning is to understand what their relationship is to the subject of English and what their main challenges are. After I have figured out the areas that the student is seeking improvement in, I proceed from there. I believe in engaging students with a variety of different activities that will keep their focus and also encourage their creativity and imagination.
