Personal Description:

Hi, I'm a friendly and supportive Chinese teacher, with Mandarin as my mother language.

I've received several writing awards in Chinese classical literature, and I have a B.A. degree in philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which combines both Chinese and Western philosophical traditions, and taught in both Chinese and English. Born and worked in Mainland China, and studied in Hong Kong, makes me familiar with both traditional and simplified written systems. I'm also able to understand Cantonese in most context, although I don't speak well.

I have worked for a few years as an editor, a journalist and free-lance tutor. With my professional and academic backgrounds, I'm prepared to teach:

a) Kids and children, since I have 2-year experience working as a full-time children's book editor in China, which makes me used to thinking from kids' and children's point of view. My amiable disposition also makes me easy to bond with children.

I also teach Math to kids and children. With A* in Math and A in further Math in my Cambridge International A-levels, and with my knowledge in kids, I'm sure I can help your kids with their Math.

b) Teenages. Before graduation, I have one summer teaching Chinese in a middle school, and awarded the favorite teacher by my students. Besides, I attended international high school, and got A*A*AA in my Cambridge International A-levels (the British curriculum), and received offers from University College London and other top unversities.

c) College students & Adults. Work experience has given me the communication skills required in a cross-cultural and global environment. My backgrounds in Chinese philosophy and literature gives me in-depth understanding in classics, whereas my professional experience as a journalist makes me familiar with contemporary Chinese culture.

Tutoring Experience:

I had teaching experience in a Chinese middle school, and now I'm an online tutor. I'm also preparing for exams on CTCSOL (Certificate of Teaching Chinese to Students of Foreign Languages).

My approach is flexible and customized to your needs. It depends on your level and your learning purpose.

★Mandarin Chinese:

I can help you fill the gap and achieve further if you're studying Mandarin Chinese as a subject in school or college; otherwise, I can also design or choose a curriculum for you.

For kids and beginners, I have originally designed a course which makes you or your kid learn with ease. It's highly interactive, and let you learn conversational skills, Pinyin, tones and pronunciation, as well as reading & writing Chinese words in a relaxing way.

If you would like to follow a textbook or prepare for an exam, surely we can do that; and if you don't know which one to start, I'll help you choose the suitable textbook.

We can also learn it in a creative way. We can learn through picture books, cartoon films, TV series, documentaries, food manuals, lyrics, or anything interesting. And of course, we can also learn from literature or classics; we can even have creative writing course on Chinese classical poetry if you're interested. Very few Chinese teachers are able to teach this type of writing, but I'm an awarded writer in this area.

I also provide intensive learning option, which allows 10-30 hours per week. You'll get improved fast in a short term. If you're going to China for studying or work, or you want to achieve something amazing during holiday, you may consider this. Please contact me for my available schedule.

My principal is to make you or your kids enjoy the learning journey. Learning a language is chanllenging, but you can learn in a supportive environment, with someone you're comfortable with. You'll never feel judged by me, as I'm here to help you or your kid build confidence with this fascinating language.

★Math for Kids and Children:

I was a children's book editor, and I know many interesting publications and online games are for kids to get basic ideas of math and logic. For pre-school kids, the Math class is mainly through games; where as for elementary school children, I'll diagnose the difficulty they have, and do excerse on the weakness.

I also provide a special combination course on Math and Mandarin for kids and elementary school children. Besides Madarin lessons, I can also teach Math in both English and Chinese. In fact, Chinese language have certain advantages when dealing with numbers and calculations, so your kids can learn Math more efficiently, and at the same time practicing Chinese. But certainly I can only teach Math or Chinese if that's what you wish.
