Personal Description:

I am currently completing a Master's of Science degree at the University of Calgary, with a specialty in Cancer Biology. I completed my Bachelor's of Science degree at McGill University, where I majored in Cellular Biology & Anatomy. Upon completion of my current studies, I will be applying to U of C's two-year Bachelor of Education after-degree program to obtain my teaching certification. In the future, I aspire to become a High School science teacher.

Tutoring Experience:

Throughout my undergraduate degree at McGill, I became a tutor for first-year chemistry and second-year biology courses. In close association with the professors for these courses, I organized and attended tutorial sessions aimed for students struggling in these subjects by reviewing relevant practice questions based on the topics recently covered. In addition to attending the usual tutorial sessions, I was able to create the questions for the students myself, meet with the professorsmy of the courses to suggest new learning techniques for the students, as well as assist new undergraduate teacher’s assistants on how to navigate being a tutor. At the end of the courses, I gave feedback to the professors regarding which type of tutorial sessions and which types of exercises were most efficient in helping the students learn based on their success in the course.

I was awarded the Tomlinson's Engagement Award for Mentoring (TEAM) in 2015, 2016, and 2017 as a result of my contributions.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority is to truly get to know my tutees in order to assess their natural abilities and visualize their perspectives, hence allowing me to teach them in a way they will best understand. Generally, I expect tutees to have completed their assignments to the best of their abilities, therefore allowing me to see the specific problem areas that I need to focus on during the tutoring session. Furthermore, I ask tutees to provide me an overview of the topics they have covered throughout the week to ensure I can prepare an appropria**Contact Detail Removed**sson plan and review relevant material during the tutoring session.

I would prefer to meet tutees in public locations of their choice, however I can accommodate home lessons as well. I will come prepared with my computer and additional school supplies to ensure productivity. While I am familiar with the general Alberta curriculum regarding sciences, I will adapt to reflect various approaches of learning used by different schools.
