Personal Description:

I am currently doing my masters at the University of Waterloo in Electrical and Computer engineering department.

Tutoring Experience:

My father is a statistics professor, he has always been my inspiration for teaching, the joy of sharing the knowledge I learnt from him. For achieving high academic record I was selected as a student mentor for 1st-year students during my under graduation, by tutoring them I realized that by solving their doubts I was able to strengthen my basics of that particular subject.So for me, teaching is not just tutoring but its learning again with a better foundation than before.

Tutoring Approach:

When I was in standard 10, I excelled in all subjects except for a regional language course called Gujarati, I was very scared for that particular subject so before stating its coaching class I met the instructor I discussed my worries with him, he calmly explained to me that my biggest problem was being scared of that subject instead I should give a chance to that subject and then decide.From this experience, I learnt that while tutoring I should be a good listener, by listening to their problems I should be flexible to change my teaching methods accordingly. I would ask the student to send me the course material beforehand so that I could prepare it in a way the student will understand and find it interesting.

I am myself a graduate student, so I know how important the mentor is in a students life. I can relate to that feeling of being confused in certain topics.I think the most important aspect of being a mentor is the ability to communicate what you know.
