Information About Deborah

Toronto tutor

Personal Description:

I'm a third-year student at the University of Toronto, studying a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies with a Minor in Art History and Visual Studies. I've always enjoyed public speaking, painting, designing, athletics, and playing the guitar, or listening to music during my free time. While I'm not at university scripting out towers, modeling structures, designing layouts, or playing badminton, I do a bit of freelance work as a proofreader, editor, and an article writer, and spend time with my friends.
While in High School, I graduated with a diploma in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Art and Design. Nevertheless, I always enjoyed Environmental Sciences, English, History and Physical Education as well.

Tutoring Experience:

Back in High School, as part of the Student Council, I took on countless opportunities to volunteer, teach, and look after classes of around 27 students between Grades 1-10, where I'd either get to keep them occupied with classwork or teach them Science, Maths or English. Sometimes, during the absence of a teacher, I was allowed to tutor a smaller group of students who required extra help. It was here that I found my passion for teaching and helping someone grasp more knowledge.
I enjoy tutoring students, as well as peer tutoring, in the areas of Science, Physics, Basic Chemistry, Mathematics, and Art or Art History, although I'm more comfortable tutoring students between Grades 3-8.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm patient and enjoy seeing and celebrating a student's accomplishment when they understand a concept. To do this, I like to understand the problem the student is dealing with and then use humor, critical thinking, and real-life examples that they may be able to relate to, to get a concept out to them. I prefer to set objectives that can be covered, and possibly give out a few practice questions at the end to help them grasp the topic. When necessary, I also find it interesting to bring in flashcards, and there's never a limit to the questions a student can ask.
