Information About Claire
Whistler tutorPersonal Description:
I'm Claire. I’m currently a pre-medical university student with a passion for working with students to find their learning style, outside of a traditional classroom setting - every student has unique strengths, and my goal is to help uncover them through encouragement, clarity, and consistency. I have learnt this myself self-tutoring my way through high school, and then my bachelor's degree, while also competiting on the World Cup skiing tour, earning full academic scholarships and maintaining a perfect GPA. Whether you're preparing for high-school exams, tackling tough subjects, preparing for scholarship interviews or post-graduate exams like the MCAT, or just need a little extra help staying on track, I’m here to make learning more manageable—and even enjoyable.
Tutoring Experience:
I have several years of tutoring experience across various subjects, including biology, chemistry, english, and mathematics. I’ve worked with students from middle school through university, tailoring lessons to meet diverse learning needs. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I’ve assisted in classroom settings and led group study sessions, which has sharpened my ability to explain concepts in multiple ways. I’ve also created study guides, flashcards, and test-prep materials for students who prefer visual or interactive learning. I have my Working with Children and Mentoring certifications.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is student-driven and rooted in active learning. Cognitive science teaches us that the best way to truly understand a subject isn’t by passively listening to a lecture, but by engaging with the material through thoughtful questioning. I use a question-based method to guide students toward their own understanding—encouraging them to think critically, explain their reasoning, and make connections between ideas. This Socratic-style approach keeps sessions interactive, helps identify gaps in understanding, and builds confidence through discovery. Every session is tailored to where the student is at and what they need most, so they stay in the driver's seat of their learning journey.
