Personal Description:

I am an Elementary teacher, currently teaching at the Junior High level in Nunavut. I am originally from Nova Scotia and came up North to gain teaching experience to an Indigenous population, and also gain valuable cultural and life experience. I enjoy spending time hiking, baking, learning, and of course - teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a qualified Elementary teacher with two years of teaching experience. I have tutored students previously, in Reading, Writing, and Math between ages 6-14. I have also tutored ELL (English Language Learners) in ESL with a focus on building conversation skills as a way to engage with the English Language. I have also tutored students at the university level assisting with writing and editing/revising papers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a passion for teaching and learning myself and enjoy building connections with the students I teach to ensure they feel comfortable and safe. I prioritize having plenty of casual conversations with students so that they feel more comfortable listening to and speaking English. I enjoy facilitating activities that are interactive with younger students to help engagement and enjoyment. I appreciate knowing what students feel like they need help with and would like to learn about so that I feel I am targeting their personal needs.
