Personal Description:

Hi there! I'm a Honours Senior High School Student that can tutor english and mathematics to your child in elementary school using the Ortan-Gillingham style. I live in the Oakridge/Langara/Kerrisdale area and offer priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons at a low rate. I am willing to travel anywhere near these areas and anything on the Canada Line.

Tutoring Experience:

My experience as a tutor began with my siblings who are diagnosed with dyslexia. As they had a difficult time understanding their teacher, I helped them comprehend new concepts in their math and english homework. With my help, they were able to maintain a solid mark throughout their elementary years. I then had the opportunity to volunteer at a local school in the Dominican Republic, assisting a teacher teach english and math to elementary students. With these experiences, I realised that their are a multitude of kids that don't have access to a mathematics tutor, and thus began my love for tutoring. To this day, if any of my younger cousins need help with their acedemics, I am always their first call.

Throughout my life, I have never believed that there is such a thing as a "hopeless" child, only a "hopeless" teacher. With my experience, I promise to do my absolute best to make sure your child not only thrives in mathematics, but develops a love for it as well.

Tutoring Approach:

My methodology can vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

As I attend a school that has adopted the Ortan-Gillingham Method, I will apply those same strategies towards the student. If your child has been diagnosed with learning-differences, I will patiently explain things in many different ways until your child completely understands the concept, as I know first-hand what its like to have a tough time grasping what the teacher tries to convey.

In terms of how my lesson is structured, I begin by consulting the parent to learn the challenges of my student. Then I will engage in conversation to make your child not only feel more comfortable, but so I can get a clear understanding as to where they are having difficulties. Then, I will review their homework and teach them new concepts that they weren't able to understand in class. At first, I will ask them to show me the steps that they currently are able to do, then I will proceed to correct their errors and, by using a variety of strategies, teach your child how to truly execute the mathematical equation.
