I'm currently a high school math teacher with Edmonton Catholic Schools. I have also been tutoring students in math for the past 3 years.
I have taught 1 year of grade 8 math and 7 years of high school math. I have taught Math 10C, Math 20-1, Math 30-2 and Math 30-1. My experience as a full-time teacher puts me in a unique position to understand where students commonly make errors and offer helpful advice to students about how to avoid these errors. I also know the Alberta curriculum inside and out; I know what teachers are testing for and can help students focus their learning to achieve the best test results. I've also taught both of the Math diploma courses and know how the diploma exams are designed and marked. This allows me to offer advice on how to best prepare for the upcoming diploma exam - currently worth 30% of the final grade.
My approach is tailored to each individual student. Math is a cumulative subject, meaning skills that students learn in previous years are required for success in their current course. I like to find out where a "gap" in understanding may exist and help my students to fill that gap so they can be successful, gain confidence and enjoy math!
