This is how 3 referees rated Carey:
I have a Master's degree in Conflict Studies, specializing in nonviolent communication and the role of recognition in creating environments of progress and peace. I believe in the search for truth as an obligation, using all the tools of the arts and sciences. That obligation entails helping others to learn - a duty I greatly enjoy. I am a passionate and lifelong learner, and I love sharing my knowledge with others.
I began my teaching experience early, helping my secondary school peers excel through volunteer tutoring after class. I went on to teach at a youth theatre camp in the summers during university. In more recent years, I have guest lectured in adult education classes for seniors on special topics of historical interest. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, and I excel at teaching learning skills and improving essay-writing.
I encourage students to learn at their own pace, and believe in patience and understanding what marks progress for each person individually. I believe in learning through practice, through simple and familiar examples that help to break down larger ideas and questions. I know each student learns in a unique way, and develop ways of making learning easier for each student in their own way.
