Personal Description:

I am a young professional currently working for a global insurance firm. I am a management liability underwriter (this essentially means I figure out how much to charge companies to insure their directors and officers for various acts they commit in the course of their duty). I have a BBA specializing in risk management/finance and a minor in economics from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with family and friends, play video games, produce music for hip hop/pop artists, and watch sports.

Tutoring Experience:

I have never been a tutor before, but have always had a passion for teaching. I was a good student when I was in school and this often lead to me assisting my classmates with their own work.

I have worked with kids before - I was an on-ice assistant for a youth hockey team (ages 5-7). I helped run drills and encourage the kids to have fun and develop their skills as young hockey players.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to essentially get to the core issue surrounding a person’s misunderstanding of a topic. I find that when people have trouble understanding a concept, there is often one or two “truths” they are missing or have not connected which are crucial to allow them to really have a good understanding of a topic. I like to essentially have the individual run through their entire understanding of a topic and along the way I can fill in gaps, redefine, or reinforce that understanding. I find people learn best when they have to teach others, so I sometimes like to have people attempt to teach me the subject they struggle with. This often helps identify their gaps in knowledge/understanding/application. I am an extremely patient individual and will spend whatever time it takes until the person I am tutoring experiences that “lightbulb” moment.
