Personal Description:

I am a University student currently enrolled at the Schulich School of Business at York University, who has a passion for teaching students more specifically in math. I am a student who enjoys learning math and have taken math throughout high school. Throughout high school I have maintained over a 95% in all my math courses and have taken all three math courses in my final year of high school including data management, calculus and vectors and advanced functions. As of now I am taking calculus as my University electives.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience working with children of all ages while volunteering at a local mosque where I taught students how to read and write Arabic. From this I learnt effective communication and organizational skills which have helped me in high school. I have experience tutoring my family and friends in subjects they have difficulty in. Additionally during my lunch hours at school, I volunteer through a program called PALS and aid students who have difficultly in math since it is my strongest subject. I also tutor high school students struggling in math during the evenings and have seen drastic results from this.

Tutoring Approach:

Before I will start to tutor, I will ask my tutee what type of learner they are so that I can accommodate their needs. Additionally I will go at their pace ensuring that they understand the concepts taught, most often students will say that they understood a lesson learnt when they do not, thus after I teach new concepts, I will have the student complete a question corresponding to what they have learnt to determine if I shall move on. Lastly, I will have a online communication system set up for tutees to ask questions that they forgot to ask including homework questions.This approach to tutoring is the best way for students to understand what has been taught as I believe math needs to be understood not memorized. This approach is the most effective way for students to understand and know how to approach thinking type questions.
