Personal Description:

My name is Alissa and I have a Master’s of Engineering from Cornell University as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Queen's University. I absolutely love learning and hope that through tutoring I can help other students enjoy school as much as I do.

After studying at Cornell I worked as a Data Scientist and have recently transitioned into Algorithmic Trading at RBC.

In addition to working with others, I absolutely love sports and the outdoors. I played competitive soccer throughout high school and was on the Rowing Team at Queen's University. Recently I’ve been out on many hiking adventures!

Tutoring Experience:

I have eight years of experience tutoring math (vectors, calculus, trigonometry, differential equations, functions, etc.), Science (physics and chemistry) and Economics.

I absolutely love working with students and have been a volunteer soccer coach in Toronto in addition to working at camp. I've worked with kids as young at two years old up to university students in their twenties. Throughout University I worked with Play Like A Girl as the Director of External Affairs and ran programs a**Contact Detail Removed**mentary schools to encourage participation in sports.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has individual needs and requires a different approach to tutoring.
When working with younger students I try to make lessons into games and use real world examples to help them grasp concepts.
I find that practice is key to success and understanding how to approach a problem from multiple starting points is important.
Whenever possible I break questions down into steps so that students can tackle any problem, not just the ones they have seen before.
