Personal Description:
Hi, I’m Alex! I’m a math tutor for grade 1-12. I’ve tutored hundreds of students with many different learning styles and I am really passionate about helping others learn! I believe everyone can discover and improve their math skills, but may just need some extra guidance along the way. I’ve been tutoring for over 5 years and have had the pleasure to hire, work alongside and train many tutors. I have experience working with students ranging from elementary, high school, to college and university.
Tutoring Experience:
Throughout the past 5 years, I have had the privilege of working many roles related to teaching and tutoring math. I currently work for the WRDSB as a certified tutor who works in the classrooms during class time and provides math support during lunch and after school. In the past I coordinated a team of over 20 tutors at the Humber Math Centre, taught three first year college courses at Humber College in Toronto and started my own private tutoring business.
In my role as the acting Math and Writing Centre Coordinator at Humber College, I trained teams of tutors on how to be most effective in individual and group tutoring sessions. Explaining these strategies to other tutors also improved my own tutoring skills. I even helped co-create a course at Humber College called Math for Moms and Dads. The purpose of this course was to teach parents how to tutor their kids, by improving their math skills and using pedagogical techniques. While working at Humber I received my certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) with Honours and received my CRLA tutoring certificate.
Note:
I charge $75 an hour for tutoring. This includes me driving to you for no additional cost. I also ask for payment in advanced as I have had times in the past where I never got paid.
Tutoring Approach:
I help students understand the process of math, not just getting the right answer. My goal is to see you succeed so I’ll make sure you understand foundational concepts before we move on to anything else. My low-pressure approach helps students not to worry about making mistakes while we work together. I am very patient and don't mind going over many questions if needed!
